Beginners' photography workshop

My informal workshop is aimed at the complete beginner and is designed to help you get the most out of your DSLR camera and to get you creating the images you want.

 The day workshop runs from 10am to 3pm and includes tea, coffee and home-made cakes, plus a delicious lunch. Spaces are limited to 8 people per workshop.

WHO IS THE DSLR WORKSHOP FOR?

This workshop is aimed at the complete beginner; it’s my job to get you understanding what’s going on with the camera and how to get it off AUTO mode and over to full manual mode.  We can do it!  

NB: This workshop will not suit anyone wanting to start a business in photography but is perfect if you want to get off the ground as a hobbyist.

The workshop is also suitable for anyone over 16 years of age.

WHAT DO I NEED?

  • A DSLR camera - this is one you can change the lenses on and has settings like A or Av, S or Tv, P and M.  
  • A fully charged battery and empty SD cards
  • Warm clothing - part of the workshop will be outside, so come prepared for this. If the weather is bad, there is a Plan B!
  • a notepad and pen
  • your camera's manual

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

This 5-hour course is a perfect balance of theory and practice and we will cover the basics such as

  • your camera and how to take control of it
  • exposure, what is it and how to nail it
  • aperture and how to use it to your advantage
  • shutter speed
  • ISO
  • focus
  • finding and using natural light
  • basic composition

NB: Photoshop is not covered in this workshop

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The cost for the day is £95 which includes refreshments and lunch.  You will be provided with course materials and email support for two weeks after the course.
